How to join an equipment register CSV with inspection results by asset ID

Use the equipment register as the left CSV and July inspections as the right CSV. Keep every registered asset to show blanks for assets without an inspection, or keep matched assets only when the result should contain inspected assets only.

• Left key: Asset_ID
• Right key: Asset_ID
• Keys use exact text: AS-001 differs from as-001 by default, and 01 differs from 1

Use descriptive, non-conflicting column names such as Register_Owner and Inspector. The output keeps all left columns, then all non-key right columns.

• AS-001 and AS001 do not match. LocaCSV does not change punctuation or spaces automatically.
• Multiple inspection rows for one asset produce multiple output rows. Duplicate keys form every matching pair.
• The join is expected to select the latest inspection automatically. No latest-date selection is performed.
• The files are reversed, so the inspection list—not the register—defines which rows remain when every left row is kept.
• Vertical merge is used by mistake. Adding inspection columns by ID requires Join by key.

All three registered assets remain. AS-003 has blank inspection columns because no matching right-hand row exists.

1. 1Open Join by key and select the equipment register as the left CSV and inspections as the right CSV. Their combined size must be 50 MiB or less.
2. 2Confirm encoding and delimiter independently for each file, then review both Asset_ID columns in the previews.
3. 3Choose one Asset_ID key column on the left and one on the right.
4. 4Choose whether to keep all equipment or matched equipment only, then review the case-sensitive option.
5. 5Choose the output encoding and delimiter, then run the join.

• The output row count matches the combined number of matched pairs and unmatched register rows
• Matched and unmatched register rows together account for every register input row
• Matched and unmatched inspection rows together account for every inspection input row
• Leading zeros, hyphens, case, and spaces in Asset_ID are consistent
• When every asset is kept, AS-003 remains with blank inspection fields

CSV content, file names, headers, cell values, and key values are processed in the browser and are not sent to an external API.

• Good fit: exactly two CSV files, 50 MiB combined, with one exact key column per side
• Good fit: keeping every left-side row or matched rows only, with separate source encodings and delimiters
• Not a fit: keys made from multiple columns, keeping every right-side row, keeping unmatched rows from both files, or approximate matching
• Not a fit: automatically selecting the newest inspection from several dates
